Mahavara

Set in the eastern hills of Nepal, Mahabhara explores the lives of ordinary citizens caught in a triangular conflict of love, politics, and religion during the Maoist insurgency. The narrative follows the story of Dukpa, a mischievous youth who is poor in his studies but popular for his traditional dances and Palam songs.
When Dukpa leaves his girlfriend, Sukmati, and moves to the Terai region to work as a driver, he inadvertently becomes entangled in the crosshairs of the civil war. The book beautifully uses a rich eastern Nepali dialect to highlight the local friction between political rebels, traditional lifestyles, and religious factions.
